24 hour national sexual assault, family and domestic violence counselling line for any Australian who has experienced, or is at risk of, family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

Family and domestic violence leave

Employees (including part-time and casual employees) in the Fair Work system are entitled to 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave each year.
Employees who are experiencing family and domestic violence can take this leave to deal with the impacts of family and domestic violence where it is not practical to do so outside their work hours.

Coercive Control

Coercive control involves perpetrators using patterns of abusive behaviours over time in a way that creates fear and denies liberty and autonomy.

People who use coercive control may use physical or non-physical abusive behaviours, or a combination of both.

Coercive control has traumatic and pervasive immediate and long-term impacts on victim-survivors, their families and communities.

LGBTQI+ Domestic Violence

Sadly, despite the prevalence, LGBTQ+ people are less likely to identify domestic or family violence in their relationships, less likely to report it to the police or seek support from services, and are far less likely to find support services that meet their specific needs.

DVA Foundation are working to ensure better outcomes for LGBTQ+ victims and survivors, and end domestic violence in LGBTQ+ communities through our awareness campaigns, education programs and reducing barriers to reporting abuse and accessing support.

16 Days of Activistm

25 November – 10 December

16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence was started by activists at  the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It is an organising strategy around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

In support of this civil society initiative, the United Nations Secretary-General launched in 2008 the campaign UNITE by 2030 to End Violence against Women, which runs parallel to the 16 Days of Activism.
